Abstract |
This study is about occupations in urban areas of hilltribe people, consisting of Hmong, Karen, and Lahu in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son Provinces, as well as their needs for non-agricultural occupation training. The training was meant to promote and enhance their occupational knowledge. It was found that tribal people working in urban areas had communication problems because of their strong accents. Some were illiterate and many only had only a six-year compulsory education. However, most businesses hired those with secondary education and higher. Additionally, those holding Thai citizenship were selective about jobs and demanded higher pay, which businesses did not relent.
