Abstract |
This work was concerned with the behavior of the Lahu ethnic group at Wang Luang Village, who had migrated from highland areas to establish their current village. Lahu from other areas moved in to live in the village and officers from state and private agencies came in to carry out development work. Some villagers and temporary state officers became involved in heroin abuse, gambling and temporary marriages to ethnic women, creating a gap for other ethnic people to marry Lahu women and to force these women to pay them divorce fees. Such an undertaking was viewed as prostitution. This study investigated the social contexts of the village in order to solve these narcotic and prostitution problems, as well as rehabilitate standard ethics for the villagers.
