Abstract |
The study found unique characteristics in the Mon community at Koh Kret, that is, meticulousness and neatness in carrying out activities. Moreover, access to community space indicated a creator-like privacy that respected nature with the unique physical aspects of the community embodied in the making of pottery as a cottage industry. The structures found included a molding hall, an incinerator and a spirit house where rituals were performed. The area for the cultural activities of the community was the space at the community shrine or a courtyard with a communication system closely connected with community space. This was a fundamental physical factor in maintaining their way of life, bringing about group formation, unity and community bonding. If the space for community activities disappeared, their belief systems and their Mon group identity would disappear likewise. The study findings could be incorporated into the designs and guidelines for the physical conservation and development of the Mon community.
