Abstract |
This work was concerned with the lifestyle of Hulu Likay performers in Pattani province. Performing the “Likay” was related to society because directors of some Likay troupes were Imams. Therefore, Islamic teachings were incorporated into the performance in order to provide audiences religious knowledge, ethics and morality. The study findings revealed that the performance played an important role for a peaceful and stable society, because families took pride in the performers and income from performing the Likay could support their familites. The incomes were supplementary earnings besides those from agriculture. Furthermore, the performance was an attempt to preserve this local cultural heritage of the province and the southern border region.
