Abstract |
This work focused on social, economic and cultural changes of two fishing communities: Tapase Village (pseudonym) in Ya Ring district and Tuepitalo Village (pseudonym) in Muang district, Pattani province. The two communities were located in the Pattani Inlet area. Orignally, the two communities were mainly engaged in traditional fisheries. When modern fishing technology was developed and implemented, the number of aquatic life was reduced dramatically, making most fisher folks involved in coastal fishery, poor leading to difficult lives due to smaller catches. They were later obliged to find supplementary jobs like being employees, merchants, salt producers or seafood processors.
