Abstract |
This work is concerned with the participation in highland agriculture of the Hmong women. The population consisted of 135 women with the average age of 34.3 years, married and livinging in Mae Rim district, Chiang Mai province. It was found from the study that the Hmong women were involved at a high level in preparing cultivation with their spouses, for instance, selection of animal breeds and cultivaton areas, raising animals and selling products. The participation in labor use was at a high level regarding slashing, preparing soil, preparing beds, seedling and weeding. Participation in animal raising was at a high level in terms of preparing animal feed and feeding them. The number of laborers in a household was related to environmental conservation. Capital resources were related to farming labor use and exposure to agricultural information was related to labor use, environmental conservation and participation in highland agriculture. However, marital status, education, family income, size of farmland, contact with agricultural promotion officers, and agricultural training were not related to labor use planning and environmental conservation (Abstract).
