Abstract |
Mon is an ethnic group with unique and rich history and culture. Once the ethnic group had its own kingdom in the southern part of the Union of Burma. However, due to some necessities, the ethnic group was obliged to migrate to Thailand in the Ayuthaya Period. Although they settled in Thailand with the urbanization trend penetrating their communities, bringing about lifestyle changes with more competition and traditional values being altered, they have ultimately been able to maintain their traditions and culture well. The Mon community at Koh Kret is a good example of the ethnic communities where traditions and culture have been kept alive for young generations.
