Abstract |
The study investigated the evolution of Islamic architecture of Muslim communities in Pattani province, where 79.58% of the population are Muslim. It was found that the evolution of the architecture was influenced by external influeces, e.g., Java, Bali, the Middle East and local influences. Initially, religious structures, such as, mosques or prayer houses, were made from wood and looked similar to ordinary houses. When communities grew larger, these structures were made from reinforced concrete, and minarets equipped with amplifiers for prayer calls were constructed to relace drum towers.
