Abstract |
Although the Akha culture contains several concepts, this article focuses on three important ones: rice, gods and virginity, which are integral parts of their customs and ritual of life from birth to death. For the Akha, rice is more than just food; it is the staff of life. Therefore, rice-related rituals are essential. Furthermore, their beliefs in gods and virginity influence the socialization of villagers. When violation occurs and taints a house and the entire village, cleansing rituals must be performed. These rituals are economically significant and affect the social assimilation of the Akha.
