Abstract |
This work was concerned with lexical choices of Lao Khrang and Standard Thai loanwords of the Lao Khrang ethnic group residing at Nong Kra Phi Village in Don Tum district, Nakhon Pathom province. It was found that the young or teenage group used fewer ethnic lexical items than the elderly group and the latter had stronger community closeness than the former because the former had to study outside their community. For the use of Standard Thai words, it was revealed that this high school student group used more Standard Thai loanwords than the primary and lower secondary student groups because they had more frequent contacts with, and more exposure, to external communities.
