Abstract |
The objective of this study was to examine lexical items related to eating habits of Muslim Thais speaking their local dialect in Narathiwat province based on the concept with the relationship between language and culture. The analysis consisted of a lexical paradigm, componential analysis and folk taxonomy. Lexical items used for analysis were in the domains of food types, cooking, food preparation and food ingredients. The study results revealed that the influences of natural environment, religion, beliefs, values and social aspects made their eating habits unique; and their local dialect logically transferred their perspectives and word choices about their eating habits.
