Abstract |
The study surveyed states of mental health of six minority ethnic groups: Karen, Hmong, Mien, Akha, Lahu, and Lisu in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Lamphun, Phayao, and Mae Hong Son Provinces, in order to implement the study findings to improve the mental health of the hilltribes. The study focused on various factors, including ethnicity, areas of residence, gender, age, marital status, number of family members, religions, education, income, land ownership, migration, and possession of identity cards. Questionnaires were used to collect the data for analysis. It was found that the overall mental health of the hilltribes was not as healthy as some might imagine, particularly in the individual and family contexts. However, their mental health in community context was good.
