Abstract

Nakhon Pathom is an ancient province with a long history and evidence of archeological sites and items. Moreover, the wisdom of various Tai ethnic groups has been well maintained and transferred. They include hand-woven textiles and wicker work of Tai Song, Koy Loy hats of Na Sang villagers, earthenware of Bang Yung villagers, hyacinth wicker work of Yan Nin Phet villagers, and bamboo sticky rice. These products have generated supplementary incomes to the villagers. Huay Mon Thong Salokbat is a cloth wrapper of a monk bowl used  during alms gathering. The work was initiated and revitalized by Mr. Somkiat Thongmun. He said that he gained this knowledge while being a monk at Pak Mai Lai Temple in Tambon Thung Khwang, Kamphaensaen district. He was trained to produce the wrapper from knowledgeable monks as a way to improve his meditation training. After leaving the monkhood, he worked for his family business and trained other villagers to produce the wrapper. The products were offered for monks’ use and for sale in Bangkok and neighboring provinces. In 1993, the production group was formed, with the participation of his family members and other villagers.
