Abstract |
The study investigates three main topics about this nomadic group. The first topic is phonology, consisting of intonation (high-falling and rising), word formation processes (compounding, borrowing, creating new words and word fillers), word types (single words, homophones, homonyms and related words), syllabic structures (pre-syllable, major syllable, minor syllable), morphemes (no definite structures, 32 consonants, 10 monophthongs and 4 diphthongs), and pronunciation (vowel length is non-phonemic and the length depends on stress and open syllable). The second topic concerns anthropological characteristics, including kinship system, house building, household utensils, healing (animistic rituals and herbs), and songs (after a hunting success and festivals). Their songs are mainly about their nomadic life, poverty, a difficult life and their difference from other ethnic groups. The last topic is concerned with the relationship between language and anthropology as seen from the word formation processes in comparison with socio-anthropological environment.
