Abstract |
The article is divided into three parts. The first part is about the adjustments of the Yao to the environment to reinforce their choice and decision making in relation to their migration and settlement. They include local administrative orders and beliefs in supernatural power in relation to political power, history, and natural phenomena. The second part deals with cultural orders as seen through annual rituals according to their slash-and-burn cultivation calendar. The final part is a case study based on a true story of a Yao in a conventional Yao society.
