Abstract |
From a medical examination of 18 Mlabris, the author found that the ethnic group might be an ancient Mongoloid race because their physical aspects indicated that they had lived in the Southeast Asian Sub-continent for a long time. However, it is necessary to find evidence to support the conclusion (p.171). When compared to the Yambri in Bernatsik’s work, the author concluded that they might have been the same ethnic group but with some different aspects brought about by the time gap in the research (p. 170).
The author further pointed out that the Mlabri might not have anything to do with the alleged policy of Nan rulers of letting slaves into the wild. If that were the case, it would be as if the evolution of the ethnic group had been reversed, which might not be possible (p. 171). Nonetheless, the author noted that the Mlabri might become extinct in the near future because they tended to merge or assimilate with neighboring ethnic groups, such as Hmong or Lahu, and ultimately became Thai citizens (p. 175).
