Abstract |
The thesis investigates ethnic pluralism in the city center of Chiang Mai through physical aspects, the economy and the social structure of the city. It is found that most ethnic groups come from Burma and neighboring counties due to trade and better economic opportunities. Ethnic diversity in the city center is in line with economic expansion and urbanization. Ethnic groups have to adjust themselves to the changing environment and they have to create their niches within this microcosmic city.
