Abstract |
The Pwo Karen at Dong Dam Village, Hot District of Chiang Mai, were relocated about 35 years ago. After their original village was flooded during the construction of the Phumibol Dam, the villagers were relocated to the present area and each family was allocated a five-rai piece of land under the land relocation program. The 1976 survey reveals that there were 458 residents in the village. The villagers are both Buddhists and animists. They are provided with education and healthcare services as well as family planning from various state regencies. Economically, they grow cash crops and raise livestock. Handicraft production has been promoted by the Tribal Research Center, while financial and sales support has been provided by the New Zealand Embassy.
