Abstract

The study investigates the relationship between communication behavior, religious belief and modernity of Muslim Thais in Nong Jik District, Patani Province. The variables include age, income, social status, education, contact with external society, and interpersonal communication. It is found that a younger age is related to more exposure to mass media and modernity, while an older age is related to religious belief. Higher education and contact with external society are related to more exposure to mass media and modernity, but are not related to religious belief. Income is related to modernity but not to exposure to mass media, while negatively related to religious belief. Social status is not related to exposure to mass media and modernity, and negatively related to religious belief. Interpersonal communication is related to exposure to mass media and modernity, but negatively related to religious belief. Exposure to mass meKhanitha Alangkorndia is related to modernity, but the two are not related to religious belief.
