Abstract |
The investigation into the history, lifestyle and beliefs of the Mlabri in northern Laos has found that the ethnic group still leads an ancient life by hunting and gathering wild products. They lead a nomadic life that depends on forests. Although they have been urged to settle permanently, the group is not interested. What would be interesting to investigate further is how future Mlabri generations will lead their lives. The author notes that what the group needs is better healthcare, a free life and safety. Their future depends on forest protection, and the extent of illegal logging, slash-and-burn agriculture, tourism, and an ability to protect themselves from sickness, accidents, internal rifts, and cultural conflicts. If the group were to settle down, it should learn how to lead a non-nomadic life and protect itself from sicknesses.
