Abstract |
The Black Tai at Khao Yoi District in Phetchaburi Province have a marriage tradition different from that of the mainstream. If a young man and a young woman love each other, the man will ask permission of the women’s parents to contribute his labor to the family for 2-3 years before the engagement. After the engagement, he will move in with the woman until they have a baby before marriage ceremony takes place. After marriage, the woman will move in to live with her husband and will change her ancestors’ spirits to her husband’s side. The ethnic group believes in animism and life after death.
