Abstract |
The Lawa originated from Yunnan Province in China and Shan State in Burma. The ethnic group strictly adheres to its animistic beliefs and sacrificial rituals are performed on a regular basis. The Lawa at Bor Luang Village and those at Um Phai Village believe in different spirits and are considered to be from different family lineage. Um Phai Villagers are regarded as barbarous by others because they eat dog meat and strictly adhere to their animistic beliefs. Lawa in other villages have been converted to Buddhism or Christianity. It is sad that not many of them can speak their ethnic language now.
