Abstract |
The Lisu are a hilltribe in Thailand. Their settlements are in remote mountains because they grow opium. A Lisu house has only one front door and it is forbidden for married women to enter without the accompaniment of their husbands. Lisu men are fun lovers and premarital sex is a common practice. After marriage, women move in with their husbands’ family. They prefer sons to daughters. They practice subsistence agriculture. They believe in animism and the spirits of ancestors. Rituals are conducted by village shamans.
