Abstract |
The thesis analyzed the Kwa Tang or Lamp Ritual of Yao men at Huay Mae Sai Village to reflect its symbolic meanings and duties of men through the teaching of shamans, folk teachers and the elderly via the ritual. It is analogous to a socialization process, such as to have gratitude to their ancestors and teachers, to become law-abiding citizens, and not to cause suffering to others. The author also indicated some social changes of the ethnic group due to their beliefs, e.g. appeasing holy spirits and believing in their leaders. As a consequence, when the state’s development policies were bestowed on the village, the ethnic group accepted them easily through the order of their leaders.
