Abstract |
The political conflicts in the South have taken place because of state policies. Patani residents regard these conflicts as a threat to their Malay lifestyle and traditions. Furthermore, a lack of economic development, corrupt state officials and a sense of being taken advantage of have been viewed as forms of cultural and political suppression and the exploitation of local people, intensifying more violent responses (p. 152).
