Abstract |
The displacement of various Karen groups in the Karenni State of Burma is caused by the fighting among various armed groups after Burma gained independence from Britain. Karen factions are divided on whether to become a part of Burma or to become an independent country. Fighting has created displacement of civilians and socio-economic destruction. Life has become difficult and unsafe. Children cannot attend schools and the government is not interested in education or public health for ordinary people. Malnutrition is most prevalent among villagers.
