Abstract |
The author summarized that, in Iw Mien society, experiences of Iw Mien women are too complicated for social scientists and feminists to pinpoint how and what exactly they are. Nonetheless, access to production factors and consumption due to the patriarchal social system is, concretely and abstractly, related in a dialectic manner. Power negotiations of these women are usually in the forms of compromise, keeping quiet, crying, or retorting by satire, depending on circumstances. The struggle is not only for their own survival but for the survival of many family members, so that they are able to live with a good quality of life and dignity as human beings within the range of their own capacity (pp. 150-151).
