Abstract |
This investigation reveals the following factors. Most household heads were males, aged between 41 and 50 years. There were five to ten members in the family. Most of the residents lived in this area for 31 to 40 years and their annual income was less than 2,000 baht/family. Most of their income was from selling domesticated animals. Land ownership for each family was more than 41 rai. There were three types of land use: rotating swidden, terrace and swidden, and rotating swidden and terrace. The factors relating to their agricultural land use included geographical conditions, soil resource status, depth of soil surface, water resource status, status of arable land, and size of land ownership. These factors were statistically significant to land use of the communities in the study area. Nevertheless, total household income, number of household laborers, living characteristics, duration of residence, contact with external societies and education of family members were not statistically significant, which confirmed the hypothesis.
