Abstract |
The lifestyle of the Sakai is unique and there are details about their cultural practices, such as beliefs in spirits and other kinds of superstition, customs and values that have defined their cultural practices, for instance virginity before marriage, putting more importance on feet than on head, a ritual to ask for forgiveness from hunted animals, and having a selection of places to build shelters that indicate their nomadic life. The ethnic group has its own spoken language and has accumulated wisdom about medicinal herbs, particularly those for family planning and birth control. Changes of their lifestyle have stemmed from contacts with urban people in the manner that the ethnic group has been exploited or has been used as a tool for interest groups. It is an assimilation of the ethnic lifestyle, attitudes, and values, from a simple and secluded life that has depended on the forest to an adaptation to changes for their own survival.
