Abstract |
The folk songs of the Chong ethnic group in Tambon Takhian Thong have been influenced by Thai music in terms of singling styles, lyrics and music. The musical instruments are mostly percussion. The ethnic songs reflect the roles of the local art relating to the lifestyle and socio-cultural aspects of the ethnic group. The songs are an integral part of important rituals, e.g., appeasement ritual of the ancestors’ spirits, weddings and funerals. The lyrics express the relationship between man and man, man and pet, and man and nature. The secondary role of the songs is entertainment. A unique characteristic of the ethnic improvised songs is that the lyrics and sentences are mostly unrelated. The movement of the pitch is generally falling, with repetition. Movements in the middle and end parts are repetitive or parallel. The keys and notes are similar to those of Thai folk songs.
