Abstract |
The article finds that the prevalence of AIDS in the area of investigation has not been serious. There was only one fatality from the disease in late 2001 and there have been no confirmations of new cases. This is due to the socio-economic and geographical factors of the community. Sexual relations in the ethnic group are regulated by traditions. Economically, the villagers are mostly farmers, so there is no population movement to lowland areas, making the community a closed society. Geographically, the village is located on a steep mountain with difficult transportation. However, if the villagers have more contacts with the outside world, AIDS cases may increase. Consequently, it is imperative to equip them with knowledge about AIDS and to raise their awareness of the danger and ways to prevent the disease.
