Abstract |
The study investigates the relationship between personal attributes and socio-economic status of Lahu farmers and their needs for agricultural development, as well as the career-related problems of 36 heads of household. It is found that most farmers are involved in agriculture and labor with average land ownership of 14 rai. The main crops are tea, apricots and lychees, with livestock for household consumption and for rituals. Their agriculture-related needs include land ownership, loans, farming knowledge, training, knowledge of fertilizer and pesticide use, better transportation routes, productivity, better prices, production increases, formation of cooperatives, and agriculture-related information. Their problems include low production breeds and a lack of new technology, labor and price guarantees. In addition, raising livestock is not productive due to a lack of relevant knowledge. It is recommended from the research findings that concerned state agencies seriously promote highland agricultural development by understanding local conditions, natural resources and the farming society, so that promotion is in line with their actual needs.
