Ethnicity and myths. Bangkok: Office of the National Cultural Commission, Ministry of Culture |
Abstract |
The author summarizes that ethnic bias about the Hmong, which the ethnic group has no opportunity to explain the real contexts of circumstances, has brought about a myth that the ethnic group is the root cause of problems and a threat to national security. The ethnic group has been denied legitimate rights to negotiate and has been forced to become marginalized. This might bring about a claim of racial discrimination and violence. It is therefore recommended that the state correctly understand contexts of events and data before presenting the image of the Hmong to the society.
