Abstract |
The report investigates historical documents relating to Laotians being brought into the central region during the early Ratanakosin Period and being settled in the region until the reign of King Rama V, when the mural paintings at the chapel of Uposotharam Temple were created. The painting characteristics are uniquely Lao in design and are found in temples where Lao communities were located. There are pictures of women wearing sarongs and men with tattoos on their legs, which indicate the Lao ethnic identity in the past. The author assumes that the paintings might have been related to the Laotians residing in the area during the reign of King Rama V.
