Abstract |
The Karen at Phrabat Huay Tom Village migrated from Tak and Chiang Mai Provinces. They are so faithful to the Venerable Wong and to Buddhism that they have abandoned their traditional rituals. Their traditional handicrafts include silverware, basketry and weaving. Silverware has become their export product and is in great demand among foreigners when concerned state agencies promoted the craft by providing the ethnic group with raw materials and marketing. The new handicrafts that generate more incomes to the ethnic group are knife hammering and laterite brick cutting.
