Abstract |
The Muslims in Sai Kong Din Tai Community migrated from Kedah and Patani during the early Ratanokosin Period over 200 years ago. However, urbanization during the last two decades has had an impact on the community, particularly in terms of economy, labor, occupation, religion, and culture. Community members have encountered a higher cost of living, obliging them to seek higher paid jobs than traditional rice cultivation. They have to work in faraway places, causing them to have higher expenses and less free time to carry out religious practices, particularly daily prayers and fasting. Therefore, they have to lessen their religious practices. Community leaders and administrative board members play a significant role in creating more jobs, distributing incomes, and providing religious knowledge, so that community members can better adjust themselves to the changes while maintaining their religious identity.
