Abstract |
The Yao originated from China and migrated into Siam. Their settlements were clustered on hillsides. They led a nomadic life determined by the seasons for cultivation. They were animists and had their own traditions, rituals, and legends about holy men. They also had their own language, dress, architecture, marriage ceremony, and child-bearing methods. Opium was used to heal sicknesses. Their physical attributes indicated their ethnic identity.
