Abstract |
The thesis investigates the food consumption culture of Muslim Thais in Satun Province on both a daily basis and on special occasions. On everyday occasions, food consumption is divided according to ages. For infants, food is liquid and easy to eat. For children and teenagers, they usually eat out and eat what they want, mostly foods made to order. Adults eat useful and highly nutritious food because they have to work hard. Old people eat soft food that is easy to digest and discharge.
On special occasions, food for the sick must be soft and bland. Food for visitors is similar to everyday food with a larger quantity. There may be special dishes depending on the status and importance of visitors. Food during festivals must be halal and clean and eaten after the end of the ceremony. Food for celebrating success or luck must be special. It must be composed of beef and mutton and eaten after the end of the ceremony.
