Abstract |
The thesis investigates changes in the ceremonies from the past to the present of the Tai Phuan at Ban Kluay Village. It is found that development and modernity, such as the irrigation canal and road construction have had direct impacts on their long traditions, beliefs, and rituals. There are two types of factors for change derived from state development plans. 1. Material innovations include facilities and vehicles, making life more convenient. The impact is that ceremonial items are bought instead of being made from local materials or being donated by neighboring communities. In addition, generosity and closeness among families have also been affected. 2. Non-material innovation includes the capitalist economy. Agricultural production has been commercialized and has become market-oriented instead of being a self-sufficient system.
