Abstract |
The Lisu at Ton Lung Village migrated to the village from the Burmese border in 1960. Their lifestyle depended on shifting cultivation and raising livestock. At the present, their main livelihood is producing clothing handicrafts for sale to tourists and being laborers in town. Their socio-economic conditions have changed due to state development and contact with the outside world. Time cannot be reversed in the maintenance of their cultural identity. The maintenance depends largely on a strong village economic system and their ethnic consciousness to preserve their culture. Additionally, outsiders should learn, understand and accept their cultural values despite the fact that they are a minority ethnic group.
