Abstract |
The article portrays attempts by the Karen ethnic group in maintaining the two beliefs. Conventional beliefs have been passed down from generation to generation. New beliefs from external society are practiced so that they can be accepted in mainstream society because the group has physical and economic contacts with the outside world. Being accepted with equal status in the global community is essential for their current lifestyle.
