Abstract |
Socio-economic developments in the area of investigation have affected Karen labor in the agricultural sector. It is found that the number of farm laborers has been reduced due to labor migration to lowland areas. Paddy cultivation land has been expanded, reducing swidden cultivation land. The agricultural land use cycle has been shortened from 2.13 years to 1.36 years due to more permanent agriculture being introduced instead of swidden cultivation practices, the result of the promotion of the project. In terms of production methods and crop improvement, it is found that income from animal breeding has decreased because the villagers are focusing more on crop cultivation and environmental conservation. Incomes from the non-agricultural sector have increased due to employment outside the community.
