Abstract |
It is found that four variables concerned with newspaper reading are related to a self-dependency attitude of the Muslim Thais in Ayuthaya and they are able to explain the attitude at a level of 70%. Reading columns on national news, agriculture and medicine is positively related to the attitude, whereas reading agony columns is negatively related. Seven variables concerned with radio listening are related to the attitude and the variables are able to explain the attitude at a level of 30%. Listening to national news and education programs and duration of listening are positively related to the attitude, while listening to drama, foreign language teaching and country song programs and frequency of listening are negatively related. There are four variables concerned with television and they are able to explain the attitude at a level of 25%. Watching dramas, foreign detective movies and international news is positively related to the attitude, while frequency of watching is negatively related. There are three variables concerned with interpersonal communication and they are able to explain the attitude at a level of 15%. All the variables are positively related to the attitude. There is only one variable concerned with external contact and it is able to explain the attitude at a level of 8%. Travelling upcountry is positively related to the attitude.
