Abstract |
The history and evolution of the Ton Son Mosque are evidence, indicating the bond between Muslims and the mosque, which is a spiritual center of the community as well. It illustrates the background and roles of Muslims in Siam from Ayuthaya, Thonburi to Rattanakosin Periods. The focus of this study was on political and administrative roles of several prominent Muslim ancestors and their descendants, including Chao Phraya Chakri Sri-ongkharak (Mud or Khaek), Phraya Rajawangsan (Chim), or Phraya Chularachamontri (Konkaew). Anecdotes of the mosque are also related to histories of Thonburi and Rattanakosin as representatives of the Muslims. They also complete the images of the two periods. Furthermore, they reflect an assimilation of various racial groups in an area called Bangkok.
