This study has the purpose of studying the relationship between social activities and land spaces in the Shan community of Muang Pon Village in Mae Hong Son Province. The projected use of the study is as a method for the organization of space which is part of public life. This study is divided into two parts: first, a study of the geographic, economic, social, cultural, and evolutionary characteristics of the community. This will seek out the influences which impact the decisions made which reflect various attitudes or activities within Shan society in the community; second, to study the form of social activity presentation and spatial use of the Shan people in the community, and how its characteristics may have changed over time. From this study, one can find the important factors which cause the community to evolve in various ways. These factors have emerged continuously, and impact the community such that there are changes induced in the form of the organization of spatial use and its governing structure. Therefore, one can identify the changing nature of social activities, and spatial use by Shan people in the community. It is possible to factor in communication, socio-economic, cultural, and population factors. Aside from these, age, gender, location, education, as well as the occupation of people in the community also have an effect on the shape of the activities in society and spatial use as well. Activities in the community can be divided into two primary groups: activities which are related to religion and beliefs, and conventional activities. The spaces for holding such activities, in total, consist of four areas: space at homes, home compounds, in the community, and outside of the community. The hosting of religious and belief-related activities are a declining trend which can be seen quite clearly amongst members of the younger generation, in that the organization of conventional activities changes according to the phase of life and respective tastes of the individual. The trend for the creation of spatial order has two aspects: the first is the form, which emphasizes control over the expansion and use of the space in order that it be relevant to the cultural conditions and characteristics of the community. As for the social and cultural aspects, there is an emphasis on the building of local cultural awareness amongst people in the community in order that they see the value of it, and eventually strive to preserve it, and make it appropriate to their contemporary lives.
