Abstract |
The study focused on the history, culture, traditions, religion, beliefs, administration, economy, education, and livelihood of the Yong ethnic group in Tambon Buak Khang, Sankamphaeng District, Chiang Mai Province. The investigation also dealt with the factors contributing to the preservation of the culture and to the changes in the culture of the group. The two major factors were education and economy. The new education system emphasized national identity at the expense of ethnic identity. Industry-oriented development has destroyed the traditional agricultural society of the Yong.
