Abstract |
The investigation reveals that, from 1984 to 1993, forest areas of Doi Inthanon National Park increased, indicating that the highland communities have co-existed well with the forest in accordance with environmental and natural resource conservation. Settlements in the area under investigation are related to geographical factors, climate, soil fertility, and water sources. It is found that the population per hectare is beyond the principle of sufficiency agriculture. Therefore, it is necessary to apply the New Theory to community management, such as control of population growth and control of land use for agriculture, settlement, and tourism. Furthermore, the residents should be equipped with new knowledge for a career choice besides agriculture. Forest encroachment must be closely monitored so that sustainable co-existence with the forest by the communities can be maintained.
