Abstract |
The socialization of Mae Han Community is related to nature, environment and supernatural power. Traditional knowledge is not separated from the nature of all things but everything is interconnected. The natural resource-related belief system of the Karen is divided in four levels: spiritual, community, kinship, and household. The system has been handed down from generation to generation through personal experience and trial and error. An effective learning method to raise community members’ awareness of natural resource conservation is participation in important rituals like the appeasement ritual of mountain spirits. At the same time, state mechanisms are important factors to make the community change their thinking process and the creation of new knowledge suitable for internal and external changes. For the thinking and belief system and knowledge to help solve community problems, it is necessary to have a transmission process and to have community organizations to integrate internal ad external knowledge for peaceful co-existence with a fertile environment.
