Abstract |
It is found from the investigation that the most important issue for the Karen concerning wildlife conservation is that mountain goats are an endangered species needing to be urgently conserved. The relationship of their attitude to household income is at a low level, to age and number of household members at a medium level, and to reading ability, external contacts and exposure to conservation-oriented information at a high level. Important problems about wildlife and forest conservation include forest fires, forest clearing for shifting cultivation in watershed areas, animal hunting for sale, illegal logging, and problems between state officers and villagers in the sanctuary area.
