Abstract |
In the past, both men and women had their bodies tattooed. The practice was carried out by all ethnic groups in the Lanna region, indicating that there were cultural exchanges among different ethnic groups. Tattooing in Karen men meant strength, stamina, bravery, virtue, and magic for self-defence in battle and for protection from poisonous animals. Men with tattoos were also attractive to women.
